2014 Spring EventWe are pleased to announce that Appleseed and Chicago Appleseed will host the Pillars of Justice Awards Reception at the American Junkie Chicago on March 25, 2014.

This year, our honorees include:

Patrick Fitzgerald—Mr. Fitzgerald is a litigation partner at Skadden Arps Slate, Meagher & Flom, and formerly served as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. In this capacity, he led numerous high-profile investigations and prosecutions, including the convictions on corruption charges of two successive governors of Illinois—George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich.

Sergio Acosta—Mr. Acosta is an experienced criminal and appellate litigator and investigator. Before becoming a Partner with the law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson, he worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago where he served as Chief of the General Crimes Section. In December 2011, Mr. Acosta was named by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to the Mayor’s Ethics Reform Task Force. He is a founding member and past president of the National Hispanic Prosecutors Association.
The Appleseed Network is comprised of 17 local justice Centers headed by the national organization, Appleseed, with roots in each of the local Centers. The Chicago Affiliate, Chicago Appleseed Fund for Justice, uses multidisciplinary research to identify community injustices, and to develop and advocate for practical solutions. In 2013, Chicago Appleseed worked with national Appleseed to secure an amendment to the comprehensive immigration reform bill. Based on our 2013 work, Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans issued an order to protect parties who can post bond, but who cannot afford an attorney, and we continue to monitor its impact.

Appleseed is dedicated to building a society where opportunities are genuine, access to the law is universal and equal, and government advances the public interest. Your support allows us to utilize the Appleseed Network to advocate for effective solutions to systemic problems both in Chicago and nationally.

We hope you are inspired by our commitment to promoting justice and look forward to your participation in our 2014 Pillars of Justice Awards Reception. To sponsor the event, or purchase a ticket, use this form.
