Introducing the Judicial Performance Commission of Cook County
It is time to start changing the way Illinois judges are retained. Chicago Appleseed Fund for Justice, in cooperation with the Chicago Council of Lawyers, has established the Judicial Performance Commission of Cook County. Supported by a generous financial grant from the Joyce Foundation, the Commission will evaluate the performance of Cook County Circuit Court judges standing for retention on the November 2010 election ballot. The goal of the Commission is two- fold. First, we wish to provide objective, research- based information about judges seeking retention. Second, we wish to use this information to produce judicial performance improvement plans designed to provide constructive ideas to judges identified during the evaluation process as having difficulties. These plans will be shared with supervisory judges, presiding judges, and with the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
For more information about the Performance Commission, contact Executive Director Malcolm Rich (malcolmrich@chicagoappleseed.org) or Program Manager Elizabeth Monkus (emonkus@chicagoappleseed.org).
