Vote For Judges
Over five million people reside in Cook County (nearly half of all Illinois residents), making it the second largest county by population in the United States. In Cook County, it is the voters' responsibility to elect state judges. Each election season, between 60 and 75 judges seek retention, and another 50-75 candidates seek election, making the judicial portion of the ballot one of the longest in the nation. Research conducted nationally as well as in Cook County has illustrated that responsible voters want easy access to information about judicial elections in general and judicial candidates in particular. To respond to this need, Chicago Appleseed created Vote for Judges, an education campaign and website dedicated to informing voters about judicial elections in Cook County.
