NEW: Future Justice Lawyers of Chicago Students’ Reports on the Criminal System, Immigration, and Healthcare in Jails & Prisons — Available Now!

Chicago Appleseed is thrilled to announce that the Future Justice Lawyers of Chicago (FJLOC) students’ reports on the criminal system, immigration, and healthcare in prisons are available now!

The Future Justice Lawyers of Chicago connects local, mostly first-generation students with individual lawyer mentors to help them network and expand their knowledge related to social justice and public interest issues. The goal of the FJLOC program is to build a new generation of social justice advocates and public interest lawyers by offering mentorship, connecting like-minded peers, and fostering a culture of idealism and advocacy. Students in the program — jointly run by Chicago Appleseed and the Chicago Council of Lawyers — attend local colleges, universities, and public and private high schools and are all committed to becoming lawyers and activists dedicated to serving justice. Learn more about the program here.

This year’s FJLOC cohort was the largest yet, with 51 undergraduate and high school participants (compared to 27 in 2024 and 8 in 2023) coming from 12 local colleges/universities and 10 high schools. These students participated in informational sessions to help them build their skills and better understand law, justice, and how the two work together, and then they collaborated on these group research projects around criminal justice, immigration policy, and health care in prisons and jails.
